How to Wet Shave: Post Shave

Part 4/4 A demonstration of how to wet shave. For most guys, shaving is considered a loathsome chore, however if done right, shaving can be enjoyable and even relaxing! Wet shaving is the traditional technique of shaving with hot water and a single blade (DE razor or Straight) using a brush (badger, boar, or synthetic) to lather a cream or soap. Modern wet shaving uses multiple passes to reduce and finally eliminate whiskers. (Without irritation!) Wet shaving may take a little longer than shaving with a multiblade cartridge razor and goo from a can, but it is healthier for your skin and the results are much better too! Having a Post Shave routine is important because you Rinse, Condition, and Heal your freshly shaved skin. Thoroughly rinse your face with warm water, then cool water after shaving. You can apply a topical antiseptic like witch hazel or use an alum block. Finish with aloe or a non-alcoholic aftershave. I shot this series of videos in early 2010. My personal routine and technique have changed/improved since then, but I haven't had time to make any additional videos. Hopefully these will be informative and enjoyable to watch

Hair Removal Tips For Bodybuilders

!±8± Hair Removal Tips For Bodybuilders

One of the most time consuming and frustrating parts of bodybuilding is not building muscles, it's removing unwanted hair.

For any competing bodybuilder, hair removal is a must but it's also growing in popularity among casual bodybuilders.

Permanent Methods

Before looking at recommendations for specific body areas it should be stated that laser hair removal or electrolysis are regarded as the only permanent hair removal methods.

Although the most effective, they are also the most expensive! For full information on laser hair removal and electrolysis, visit this Laser Research Library: about-hair-removal.com/Laser-Library

Here is checklist of body areas and recommended hair removal methods for each:

Upper Lip, Chin, Mustache and Beard -

Men: Shaving.

Women: Waxing or sugaring.

Back of Neck -

Men: Shaving, clipping.

Women: Waxing or sugaring

Chest -

Waxing, shaving, depilatories.

CAUTION: Some find the shaving option unacceptable due to the irritation it causes when stubble reappears shortly afterwards. There can also be an acute problem with ingrown hairs in some cases. Once the shaving option is taken for chest hair removal it will need to be done regularly.

Nipples -

Tweezing. Stretch the skin slightly, grip the hair close to the root, and pull gently, firmly and evenly. Yanking the hair may cause it to break off thus increasing the risk of ingrown hair.

Shoulders, Back, Arms, Hands, Tummy -

Waxing, sugaring, depilatories. Waxing or Sugaring is the best method for all these areas. Taking a shower directly after waxing the back helps eliminate the possibility of acne breakouts and skin redness.

Underarms -

Shaving is safe in this area. Hair under the arm grows in all directions so a side to side stroke as well as up and down strokes may be necessary to catch all the hairs. Do not apply deodorants or antiperspirants right after shaving as this can cause acute irritation and soreness. Waxing or sugaring are also safe.

Do not use depilatories to avoid the risk of chemical burns on the sensitive skin in this area.

After the skin in this area has become accustomed to shaving, applying a thin layer of Vaseline petroleum jelly instead of a shaving foam or gel will give a really close shave.

Pubic Area and Bikini Line -If the hair is long it can be cut down with scissors. Then use a waxing or sugaring solution. Careful shaving is also possible.

Genitals - Male -

Hair growing on the shaft of the penis and on the testicles can be removed by shaving using a new wet razor. Great care is needed to avoid cuts.

Genitals - Female -

Waxing or sugaring is generally best. Shaving will only cause stubble to appear after a few days and it may cause skin irritation and painful bumps.

Anus and Perineum -

The Perineum is the area of skin rich in nerve endings located below the anus. In men it extends to the base of the testicles, in women to the vaginal opening. The anus is a mucous membrane. Depilatories should not be used as they can result in serious damage. Shaving produces stubble which may cause irritation as the sides chafe and rub together. Waxing or sugaring are the best methods.

Legs, Feet, Toes -

Shaving the legs is popular but the hair grows back after a short time. Waxing or sugaring are preferred although you have to wait until there is about a quarter of an inch of growth.

These can be found online, just do a search for "sweat pads" and you should get some results as to where to pick them up. They are pretty cheap and most of them are disposable, you wear them once and then throw them out. Shaving - A Short History

!±8± Shaving - A Short History

Have you ever wandered who started the daily ritual of shaving?

Drawings in caves from the stone age, indicate that men of that era pulled the hair from their faces. They did not learn how to cut the hair until about 30,000 BC, when they used flint blades for that purpose. Early man also used the flint blades to cut the skin and then he placed colors to create designs.

From about 3,000 BC, copper blades were made for the cutting of hair in both India and Egypt. For the next few thousand years, many razors have been uncovered from archeological sites. In Denmark, razors with bronze blades and carved handles in leather cases have been found. Alexander the Great started the trend to have short hair and a shaved face. Roman women also started removing hair from their bodies through this period, using creams and drugs and the Roman men shaved every day, usually at the barbershop, if they did not have a servant. Indian men neatly trimmed their facial hair but removed their chest and pubic hairs by shaving. The Indian women removed the hair from their legs with tweezers. Some women removed the hair from their legs by singeing them with a lamp. Roman men were recognized as men after their first shave at age 21. Julius Caesar removes all his facial hairs with tweezers.

From about 100 AD, shaving becomes old-fashioned and the bearded look becomes the "in thing", probably to cover a bad complexion.

The middle ages brought about large volumes of clothing and head-dresses and women once again removed any sight of facial hair every day. Men wore their beards long. Schools opened that teach people about personal grooming (cosmetics, hair management etc,) first in Spain and then in other places. Towards the end of the crusades, men started to be clean shaven again.

Queen Elizabeth maintains a lily white complexion and removes all hair form the eyebrows and forehead areas. The ladies of this day followed suit, but wore hairpieces as well. Not long after the men also removed all hair from the forehead.

Finally in the late 1700's French men realized that they can shave themselves and French women shaved their heads completely, but wore decorative wigs. The first "safety razors" became available. They were not very safe, but promised to reduce the depth of any wound received whilst shaving! In the early 1800s English men boasted about the need to shave three times a day to maintain a proper image. European women were still concocting hair removal potions - which did not work!

The next hundred or so years provided many inventions for grooming, including "safety razors" and disposable razors by none other then Gillette (who are still a major player in providing grooming needs) Then in 1901 the double edged razor blade is invented by a joint venture between Gillette and Nickerson - and this is still available today. New designs continually appear until the a wind up razor was invented, followed by the electric razor. Women did not shave their underarms until a marketing campaign in the United States in 1918, where the advertisement maintained the underarm hair was both unhygienic and unfeminine. Col Shick designed a new type of razor in competition with Gillette and so the race for new and better razors was well and truly on. Shick invented the first dry electric shaver and Phillips of the Netherlands invented the first wet electric shaver. Twin blade, then triple blade and now quad blade disposable shavers are available.

The modern shaving devices are much safer and quicker to use then the earlier one, but like all fashion, perhaps the trend for shaving will change sometime in the future.
